This morning I thought I was looking for
Another scripture,
But I found myself in Exodus
The 20th chapter,
The Ten Commandments.
One commandment caught my attention:
Regard, treat with honor, due obedience and courtesy
Your father and mother
That your days may be long in the land
Your God gives you
(Exodus 20:12 Amplified Bible).
Something broke inside me
I began to cry
For I realize for years
I carelessly and sometimes jokingly
Found my parents at fault,
Used them as blame for some of my
Faults and weaknesses.
I can’t recall thanking them
For the good they did.
I began to do that
Though they are on the other side
Of the torn death curtain.
I thanked them for all the good they did
For all the sacrifices they made.
I told them that if I had the option
I would choose them to be my parents again,
for I saw them in a new light.
It was like watching a movie.
I could see them before this Earth Creation
Volunteering to be my parents
Volunteering to play character parts
My shaping would require.
Not the beautiful and handsome
Starring roles
But sharp cutting character roles.
I saw that my shaping required this
In order for me to be me.
I also saw that my criticism of my parents
Was actually an accusation against God
For He was the Designer.
His design was necessary
For my days to be long
“In the land the Lord your God gives you”.
Those words came alive
The land He is talking about
Is not this Earth Creation
But the Land of His
New Heaven and Earth Creation!
