Standing in the Gap



Abraham intervened with
God

Regarding impending destruction of
wicked Sodom and Gomorrah

Saying, will You destroy the
righteous

Along with the
wicked?

Suppose there are fifty righteous
people there?



God said He would spare the whole
city

For the sake of the
fifty



Abraham began then, to “bargain” with
God

Asking for pardon if there were
forty-five

Then thirty, twenty and
ten

Righteous citizens
there

Abraham’s motive was to spare the
lives of His nephew

Lot and
his family



God did what Abraham
asked

He spared Lot and
his family

Taking them out of the city before it
was destroyed



Those in relationship with
God

Have the same privilege and
responsibility

To intervene for those in our
family

And those around us who
are

Destroying themselves through
destructive

Life styles



We do make a difference by standing
in the gap for them!

Just as someone in our
lineage

Stood in the gap for
us



For there has been someone in our
family line

Those here on earth
and

Those on the other side of the torn
curtain of death

Standing in the
gap

All the way back to the
beginning



We are part of an unbroken
line

Of believers in
Christ

People who stood firmly in the gap
for us

Perhaps without our knowledge or
recognition



I thank God for my family
lineage

And I give thanks to
all

Who have stood in the gap for me and
my family



By the way, “standing in the
gap”

Is not just interceding in prayer for
someone

It is holy stubborn refusal to move from our position of
faith

In the
unlimited

Miraculous saving power of Christ
Himself

As He stands
firmly

Refusing to leave His
place

In us
